Background remover & compositor

Remove a person background, save a transparent PNG, and place the cutout on a color or another image.

Files are not uploaded to a server. Selected files and results are processed only inside your browser.
This tool uses the MediaPipe Image Segmenter model. It works best on people and selfie images; complex product cutouts may be less accurate.

Practical guide to Background remover & compositor

Create a transparent person cutout with MediaPipe, soften the mask edge, then download it or place it over a color or background image in the same workspace.

Best uses and outputs

  • The removal tab is optimized for people and selfie-style subjects rather than products, logos, pets, or complex scenes.
  • The compositor controls canvas size, background fitting, cutout scale, X/Y position, rotation, quality, and PNG/JPG/WebP output.

A reliable workflow

  • Use a photo with clear subject separation, start with low edge softness, and inspect hair and clothing against the checkerboard preview.
  • Keep the transparent PNG as a reusable master before moving to composition and exporting a flattened publishing copy.

Limits and troubleshooting

  • MediaPipe may remove thin objects, loose hair, or parts of subjects that resemble the background; edge softness cannot restore missing pixels.
  • The model and WASM runtime are loaded from their documented external hosts, so content blockers or an offline connection can prevent initialization.
